Shenanigans & Tomfoolery

This is the first thing I worked on after finishing my work on the pitch.

I hadn’t colored anything in a while and about a week ago, this picture of a drunk Pikachu popped into my head for God knows what reason. I don’t know why I get such a kick out of seeing inherently cute characters behaving in a twisted, demented and/or immoral manner. It’s probably why I absolutely love the hangover scene from the Spongebob Movie. Hey, maybe that’s where the inspiration for this came from.

I laid out this drawing with red pencil very roughly in my sketchbook and went straight to inks. It’s a very simple drawing and I was confident enough not to worry about doing any kind of tight pencil lines. I also skimped on the background, as I usually do with these kind of drawings.

I colored this in Photoshop in my preferred method, which is to lay flat, animation-like shading in layers underneath the drawing after which I blend in gradients at less than 100% opacity to give a little roundness to the figure.

I got this done very, very quickly. Couldn’t have been more than 3-4 hours altogether.
