Sketchbook Update – 9/21/09
I don’t think I drew anything last week. As a matter of fact, I don’t think I’ve done anything in the last couple days other than being lazy and playing Arkham Asylum (hence the lack of posts). It’s been a while since I spent a couple of days doing nothing but I think I’ve had enough of that for now.
These are some of the pages that I drew after Neal Adams critiqued my work in this year’s New York Comic-Con. I’d probably spend like five hours writing about that particular event so I’ll just say this: Neal Adams is a man that treats his work with utmost dedication. He’s also not as bad as people say. He doesn’t mince words, but he’s not as bad as people say.
Anyway, he told me, among other things, to draw from magazines so I did nothing but that for about a month straight.
Many more pages (and drawing of Bruce Lee with an unintentionally large head!) follow.

I drew from Muscle & Fitness to Elle and everything in between. It was a good exercise but I’m just very mixed about using reference. I feel like I should be figuring out shading or perspective on my own without relying on reference.
I should do these sketchbook updates at least monthly.
