Pixar’s UP nominated for Best Picture.

It seems at times like the Academy created the Best Animated Feature Film category just to relegate animation to its own little corner of the Oscars and collectively forget about it so it's refreshing to see UP running for Best Picture this year. I saw UP like five times and it truly is an amazing film and more than worthy of being called best film of the year. Whether UP could've broken into Best Picture with only five nominated films in the category as opposed to the ten we're having this year is up for debate but stilll.
It was a pleasant surprise to see District 9 running for Best Picture also.

sadly, those are just sympathy noms….
the real movies up for best picture coincide with the noms for best director…as 9/10 times they go hand in hand…
alot of people think its due to dark knight getting snubbed last year…and its also to help dipping show ratings, as in the past the best pic noms were not always well known…
im betting the battle for best pic is the hurt locker and up in the air…both of which im upset i havent seen them yet
i guess its neat that pixar busted out of the best animated feature ghetto, even if its only sticking a hand out from the bars…

Yeah but it’s still nice for animated films to get a little more recognition. I mean, the last time an animated film got nominated for best picture was what? The Beauty and the Beast? That was a long time ago and Pixar has been pushing quality stuff for years.
It could be argued that Avatar is an animated film also.
