Mario vs. Josef

Mario vs. Josef

This is how a lot of these fights happen: 1) I play a game, 2) I love it and 3) I want to draw something about it.

Machinarium’s Josef posed a bit of a problem because he’s not a fighter in the slightest. I contemplated the idea of having him use the gun/plunger item as a weapon but it seemed forced and there are too many gun-oriented characters as it is. (And let me save you a lot of headaches right now if you plan on playing this lovely game: the plunger is in the ceiling of your adjoining cell). Josef’s only ability is being able to stretch to about twice his height and the only thing that could be used for in a fight is to strangle-hang someone. That was my starting point for this fight.

Reverse engineering Machinarium’s beautiful visuals for the background was quite a bit of work and I got as close to the sun as I could in trying to imitate it.

Progress animation below.
