The Avengers has passed (REVIEW: it was AMAZING!) so, other than the inevitable sequel, what other long term comic book movie project is there to look forward to?

The answer to that came during this year’s Marvel Studios panel at SDCC: it’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

I think there’s a void in superhero films (which could be considered its own genre at this point) in the space-oriented, science fiction epic. It’s a gap that last year’s Green Lantern failed to capitalize upon and, as a sci-fi lover, I can’t wait for it to be exploited. I’m familiar with only a couple of characters in the team (Drax had some great moments in Annihilation and Rocket Raccoon is awesome in UMvC3) and I’ve always been interested in reading the Guardians of the Galaxy comic but, for once, I’m almost tempted to not have a bottomless well of prior knowledge and pre-conceived notions with which to judge the film by. Maybe I’ll go to this movie clean.

Still, 2014, the film’s tentative release, is such a long ways off…
