The Completed Pitch

After all these months it’s finally done: my comic book pitch is completed. Above is the proposed cover and after the break are the first 11 pages of issue 1 (only the first five are lettered and the last two are a WIP spread though) + a brief description of what the comic is about.

Hell’s Kitchen – Cover, Linework

Or “potential cover” I should say. A little more info on the piece after the break.

The Flash is the greatest.

The Flash is the greatest.

So I’ve been reading The Flash Companion, which is a book that details the history of the various Flashes and their creators. I’m still in the Golden Age section of the book reading about Jay Garrick and it’s all well written and very informative but it was when I read the foreword by Keith Dallas [...]

Looking back on Wednesday Comics – Part 2

Looking back on Wednesday Comics - Part 2

DISCLAIMER: It’s very possible that, as Wednesday Comics settles in my head, the order in which I’ve placed all of these strips may shift around. They already have, as a matter of fact, been moved back and forth every so often during the process of this writing. I will say that, at the very least, [...]

Looking back on Wednesday Comics – Part 1

Looking back on Wednesday Comics - Part 1

Wednesday Comics, brainchild of Mark Chiarello, is a weekly collection of 15 strips starring various DC characters presented in 20” x 14” newsprint pages and it has finally reached its conclusion after its intended three months in publication. I hesitate to call it a comics “experiment” because, as many have pointed out, the project draws [...]

Hell’s Kitchen – Page 1, Color Test

This is a color test I did in Photoshop of page 1 from the comic pitch I’m working on, the same page I posted in black and white a while back. I wanted to take a shot at coloring this even if I, assuming this thing pans out, would never be able to realistically pencil, [...]

Absolute Green Lantern: Rebirth next year.

Absolute Green Lantern: Rebirth next year.

It looks like Green Lantern: Rebirth is getting the Absolute treatment next year. For many reasons (shelf space and price chief amongst them) I’ve been very judicious as to which books I buy in the oversized Absolute format. So far, Watchmen has been my one and only Absolute purchase, though I’ve considered getting Absolute Kingdom [...]

Krypto vs. Dex-Star

It was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con that Krypto the Superdog would be fighting Red Lantern Dex-Star (or Rage Cat as he’s affectionately known around the web) in Blackest Night. I don’t think I’ve seen a drawing of this most perfect match-up yet so I took it upon myself to give it a shot. [...]

Computer woes and Blackest Night.

Computer woes and Blackest Night.

It’s been a while but my computer got really screwed up again. I won’t go into details but the good news is that I did manage to save pretty much all of my data. I gained a couple of hassles (I can’t sync my iPhone applications with iTunes anymore or I’ll lose all my application [...]

The Pitch

This is what I’ve been working on over the past few weeks. My roommate, an aspiring writer, had this idea for a story set in an alternate version of Hell’s Kitchen in his head and I, being an aspiring comic book artist, suggested for him to do it as a comic. We started going back [...]
